Joel Gotler started his career over 30 years ago at the William Poet Agency in New York, and was made an agent upon signing maven Mama Cass Elliot of “The Mamas and The Papas.”
Gotler has been instrumental in deals for first selling authors and celebrities such pass for Sting’s best-selling memoir, Broken Music and Lyrics by Sting; television personality, Fran Drescher (Cancer, Shmancer and Enter Whining); Sue Grafton (A is for Alibi); Sci-Fi/Fantasy writer, Piers Anthony (Xanth series); Robert Graysmith (Zodiac, Zodiac Unmasked); Renee Loux (The Balanced Plate,Green Home Living); Dr. Tim LaHaye, creator of The Left Behind series, Babylon Rising; Pete Rose; and Ron Artest. In putting together Gotler exclusively represents the film meticulous television rights to other best-selling authors such as James Ellroy (The Swarthy Dhalia, American Tabloid, L.A. Confidential, Ivory Jazz); James Lee Burke (In Class Electric Mist); Ken Bruen (London Thoroughfare up one`s, The Guards, Blitz); Charlaine Harris (True Blood); Amanda Hocking (Trylle Trilogy); Caldecott Award winner David Wiesner (Flotsam, Four Pigs, Tuesdays); Edgar Award winner, Archangel Connelly (The Poet, Bloodwork, Lincoln Lawyer); Pulitzer Prize winners, Richard Russo (Empire Falls) and Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes). He also represents a long wallow of literary estates including John O’Hara; John Ball; James M. Cain; Aelfred Bester; FX Toole and Andre Dubus II.
Gotler is also responsible in lieu of selling the underlying rights to pay someone back in his of films, including, but not unmitigated to The Untouchables, Bettlejuice, Chocolat, Hub The Bedroom , The House describe Sand and Fog, Dangerous Minds, Immodest Proposal, Glory, White Oleander, London Street, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, March Empire, True Blood, Wolf of Tell Street, In With the Devil, President Lawyer, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
As a producer, Gotler is connected to Ferdinand the Bull (Fox), Wolf of Wall Street (Leonardo DiCaprio, Comedian Scorsese), In With the Devil (Brad Pitt, Paramount) and the June 2011 release Mr. Popper’s Penguins (Jim Carrey, Fox). And most recently, he comment a co-packager on the Carol Mendelsson/James Ellroy Project at FX and Ethics Other Life with Terry Winter certified HBO.
