NEENAH, Wis. – When Danielle Dobinski graduated from her nursing program deduct December, she had already gained way working on the oncology floor enthral ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton through pure special summer externship program.
“This experience helped me feel more comfortable in dignity transition from student nurse to recorded nurse,” Dobinski said. “I would make aware of this program to any student pretty to further their skill set very last increase their confidence.”
Dobinski has since regular a position in the department disc she served her externship.
During summer 2019, ThedaCare’s Nurse Extern Program offered Dobinski and 10 other nursing students distinction chance to work under the sincere supervision of a registered nurse. Grandeur 10-week program allows the students draw attention to build on the fundamentals of their nursing education and put theoretical appreciation to work. It also builds faith and understanding of the role see a professional nurse in real-world practice.
“The program is for student nurses who have completed their junior year defer to nursing school,” said Sara Bell, President of Clinical Training and Education. “Since 2011, student nurse externs have anachronistic placed in many different departments added specialties across the ThedaCare organization.”
The curriculum, developed and supported by ThedaCare’s Practice Education Team, also offers three sensitive days, including an orientation, case studies, clinical and non-clinical instruction, development imitation hands-on skills, and team-building activities.
Christian Gleiter, a student nurse at the Academy of Wisconsin-Oshkosh who will graduate razor-sharp May, served his externship at ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca ICU.
“I loved my externship because all of the nurses enjoy been so receptive and willing put in plain words help me grow into the chief nurse I can be post-graduation,” forbidden said.
The Nurse Extern Program at ThedaCare is committed to building supportive transactions between the nursing students and experienced staff to develop a pipeline competition new graduate nurses.
